Did I forget to mention that I am away for a business trip in Tokyo this week? Too lazy to type paragraphs so shall explain with pictures....Seriously I was not expecting the company to put us up at such a swanky joint, knowing how expensive Japan generally is...but boy, I was so surprised when the coach pulled up and voila! The Strings by Intercontinental Hotel. We have corporate rates of $260 per night, but a check with the front desk confirmed my suspicions. $590 per night is the going rate.....so what makes it worth $590?
First you jazz up the bed with the fluffiest pillows and softest doonas......
Then you make sure that there is a "foot" button next to the bed your customer can push if....
they need to get a drink in the middle of the night and the room is dark.....
You try your best not to make them go through too much effort compared to other normal hotels. For example, its too much work to hang a sign outside your door..just press a button....
Having million dollar paranomic views of the city will encourage your customers to go that extra mile on the treadmill.
And if your customers do not feel like a $200 meal to match the $590 room, there should always be takeaways available within walking distance.
And finally, you never, ever make your customers clean up after themselves. You invent machines to do that. And try to make it as universal as possible, where you can have the options of the machine cleaning your arse (second button from left) or your verjujus (third button from left). But what about the cold winter nights when you have to sit on the cold ceramic toilet seat? Ahhh....a push of a button and your seat will be all warm and toasty ready for you to plonk your plump arse on...... That's all you need to do to design a $590 per night hotel.....
