Crowded

I take the train to work everyday. That is a curse that I have to live with for as long as I am living here in Singapore. Because Singapore is quite well connected by public transport, almost everyone takes trains or buses to work everyday. Give me a bus any day, cause the trains here are shit jam cramped packed!Every inch of space is taken up, and the shorties are condemned to armpit heights of the taller people.

There are two main reasons why it is such a drag to get to work on the train. Firstly, my train station had to be special and was designed such that the entrance falls on the opposite side of most other stations. How does this affect me, you ask? Just imagine, as the train gets more and crowded from people coming in on 1 side, people tend to move towards the side of the door that is not opening. 6-7 stations later, when it comes to my station, the door opens and people are already jammed packed on my side. Which leaves me with about a 2 square centimeters standing space to squeeze into. Which I do. Pushed through with the ferocity of a Dragon forward. Just to gain my ground. To get to work. My life is such.

2nd reason is I always get lumped together with Singapore's most inconsiderate packed train travellers.

Specimen 1 : Guy with HUGE backpack not taking it off his back and in the process taking up 2 passenger space whilst only paying for one.

Specimen 2 : Guy with no backbone who feels the need to rest his spine against the only holding pole where a packed cabin of 50 passengers need to hold on to for some stability (Matt has formulated the best holding position for this situation. First find some space on the pole near the offender's head which you can hold on to. Secondly, while holding on to the pole, try to hold onto a few strands of the offender's hair and wrap your fingers together with the hair tightly around the pole. Thirdly, wait for offender to alight.)

Specimen 3 : People sitting in reserved seats who automatically fall asleep when train doors open to avoid eye contact with frail old ladies who have no poles to stabilise themselves against due to the spineless creatures leaning against them.

Really looking forward to my next train trip in 8 hours time.....
