Lest you think I might have left the country after my last post....
Yes, can't believe it, haven't inputted for about 3 weeks now. Had great difficulty getting over the flu. This year's flu season is so bad, I haven't had any friend that hasn't been hit by it yet. Even at work, at any one time, there's at least a couple of people who are off sick.
Well, its been 2 weeks since Matt's back, and we've been enjoying each other's company. Doing nothing at home. The bloody cold weather doesn't help, most nights (and some days) are just impossible to go out. We've become quite artsy fartsy in the last few weeks, watching 3-4 art house movies over 2 weekends. Saw La Vie En Rose, about the life of Edith Piaf, possibly France's most famous singer in the 40s(???). Very melodramatic, but not over wrought with depressing moments. Now even though I don't know much about her, I was very drawn into movie, mostly due to the absorbing performance of Marion Cotillard in the lead role. I think she has won next year's Oscar already.
Then it was on to something more political, Michael Moore's Sicko, a documentary about the state of health care in America. While I was mildly shocked by the fact that America does not provide free or subsidised health care for its citizens, the movie didn't do much for me. Maybe I've come to expect something more confronting from him. I loved his last movie Fahrenheit 911, but with this one, I was a bit disappointed.
Clubland, a good accessible Australian movie (finally! No more Little Fishes or Jindabynes) with soul and a believable storyline. Although they did have to import an English actress, the young Aussie talents did pretty well in matching up with her performance. Simple well balanced story about a mother who is a faded star struggling to come to terms with possibly "losing" her son to his girlfriend. Highly recommended, except its run is over. Watch it on DVD!
That's it from us this week "At The Movies". We'll see you next week, same time. Bye!
(Why am I talking about movies instead of my favourite subject...myself? Must be going mad!)
PS : Work still in upheaval, my mentor just resigned today. This heralds the collapse of the technical team (because we rely on him so much). Strangely though, I reacted very calmly to the news today. No point crying over spilt milk. Just get on with it. I must say though, having Matt to come home to certainly helps relax me a lot more than 3-4 weeks ago. His support has been invaluable. Can't believe how much I've grown to rely on him........
PSS : Going to Luna Park this Friday for company's end of financial year celebrations. May take some photos and post them here next week.
